The following allows you to see the progress of this utility.
ver1.0 to 1.90: local betas. tested in January and February of 1992.
just batch files for .zip that used 2 pd/shareware utils
to help chop files and to ask questions in a bat file.
ver2.0: : Finished up the first public release version as a compiled
batch file.ADDED ANSI screens, removed/revised the source.
Released early March 1992.
ver2.1 to 2.2 : Cleaned up a few bugs revealed through wide release. Had a
problem where it was missing an internal call after the
backup that would cause it to start the restoration routines!
No bugs have been reported from this version for the last
YEAR so decided to once again revise.
Released on April 1, 1992
ver3.0 to 3.1 : Decided that with the PKWARE mess released in the early part
of 1993, that I would make the utility use ARJ exclusively.
Version 3.1 contained the first use of commandline switches
for unattended backups for those with tape drives.
Released on February 1, 1993
ver 3.5/4.0 : This is the FIRST version not a batch file or compiled batch.
Written in QBasic 4.5 from my original batch source, it
remains, functionally, identical to version 3.1. Also, using
the functions in Qbasic I removed the need for ANY external
program. The only thing needed is a copy of BRUN45.EXE which
NO Wildcat! SysOp should be without! Great pains have been
taken to insure you that NO bugs are in this utility and
none have been found. Technically this is version 3.5
( of MY programming this effort), which it states in the
Initial screens, but in reality IS 4.0(stated at the bottom
of the Startup screen). Any future revision coming will be
4.1 or higher in number.
ver 4.1 : version 3.5/4.0 was an ACCIDENTAL release of a final beta
containing a few bugs. These bugs were MAJOR due my QBasic's
programmer not understanding aspects of my original source.
Also, NO BRUN module is required now. Fixed a bug where the
program would try to backup an OPEN log file. This would
cause the archiver to generate an error which would crash the
last disk of every backup! Also, included archive testing/ver-
ifying routines and touched up the errorhandling routine.
ver 4.2 : Fixed a small bug when using TAPE drive sizes, some cosmetics,
and ACTUALLY made DOCS for this thing! Finished up a revision
of the commandline options and recompiled the sucker.
COMPILE DATE: February 26,1993
ver 4.3 : Added a keyfile so registered users get some recognition for
their efforts to support shareware.
Also fixed the graphics error whicha caused the final screen
to swap the Wildcat home directory for the target drive.
Still resisted the temptation to encrypt the backups and
allowing registered users ONLY to restore them.
Need brun45.exe to run.
COMPILE DATE: March 5, 1993
ver 4.4 : Don't need brun modules again, and found that the exclude
list needed some explanation. I forogot that if you just put
msg*.* there, not only would it exclude messages, but the
message menus! A couple of other code cleanups done. Old key
files WILL work with this version.
